What do the campus fees cover?
Campus Fees cover the use of the campus computer labs, library, pool, gym, fitness center etc.
What is the temperature in Spokane?
Go to www.weather.com for up to date weather and climate information.
In the summer 60°F - 75°F and in the winter 25°F - 40°F.
Where can I live?
SCEL and SCC offer a world class homestay program.  Students can also arrange for private accommodation elsewhere in Spokane.
Housing Information
How many students from other countries study at SCEL?
Typically 40% Asian, 30% European and 30% Latin American. There are limits on the number of students from each country and there may be a waiting list.
Can I talk to someone in my own language about SCEL?
We can give you a phone number and/or Email address of our counselors, a representative from your country, or a current or former student from your country.
Who is going to pick me up at the airport?
A representative from  SCEL or your Homestay family will pick you up at the airport.  Once you file your homestay application and pay your $200 Homestay placement fee we will ask you for your flight information.
After I apply, what’s next?
After you apply, we will review your application, to ensure that everything has been filled out correctly and send you an I-20. You will then take the I-20 to the American Consulate/Embassy to obtain your student visa.
Why do I need health insurance?
All international students at SCEL are required to buy health insurance through the school at a discounted rate.
Can I work as an international student?
As an international student (F-1 visa), you can work on campus up to 19.5 hours/week if you are in good academic standing, you cannot work off campus unless authorized by U.S. Immigration (www.uscis.gov).  Students can also enroll in Optional Practicum Training (OPT) after they have been enrolled for nine months of full time classes.
What is a community college, and why should I go to a community college instead of a university?
Almost half of all U.S. undergraduates now attend community colleges.  That’s over 11 million students. And this year, almost 90,000 international students made community colleges a part of their undergraduate program.
